Groove Caravan  is a stunning album of world music fusion, full of passion, exoticism, and romance, which documents the collaboration of  Vishwa Mohan Bhatt - a world renowned, Grammy-Award winning Indian classical musician on the Mohan Veena (modified Indian slide guitar), with Glen Charles Halls- one of Canada’s leading and most innovative jazz pianists, a rock guitarist, and composer.

This is a  unique and wide ranging album that moves through contemporary, groove oriented music, and beautiful ballads, clearly routed in the traditional, devotional Indian-classical tradition, but sprinkled with touches and colors from the jazz and tonal harmonic traditions, sensitively and intelligently placed.  It is a richly produced album, but at  the core we hear two great musicians trading and co-creating improvised solos, with a shared understanding of higher purpose in the music.  ‘World music fusion’ would be an appropriate stylistic label for the album, but it is not just the fusion of Indian-classical and jazz elements, but a wider fusion with world percussion elements of African and Latin American origin, and contemporary groove elements suggestive of urban western music.  Sonically, it is a stunning recording; romantic and evocative, rich and exotic, and yet also containing moments of profound simplicity.  It is a perfect record to set a romantic and yet exotic mood, but nonetheless features musicianship and musicality of the highest level.
